How to Care for Cork

Posted by Paula Parisotto on

Quality cork fabric or "leather" is highly durable and naturally resistant to dirt, dust, stains and water making your cork accessories (or floors, furnishings and walls) a breeze to maintain.

A cork tote sits in a sink ready to be washed

When cleaning is necessary, simply:

  • Dampen a soft, clean cloth with warm water and a mild liquid detergent. (Natural baby wipes work too!)
  • Using a circular motion, gently clean your cork.
  • Wipe away any excess soap and water.
  • Allow it to air dry.

Honestly, I wash my cork bags right in the sink. Check this out.......

Good to know.........Like animal leather, cork leather will get even softer, more supple and develop a beautiful patina as it reacts to the oils in our skin and the environment. Unlike most leathers, however, there’s no conditioning required!

For personal and home cork accessories that do include animal leather details, stain resistance, cleaning and conditioning can be achieved with a quality leather product. I'm a fan of Earth friendly, family run, US made, small batch brands like Smiths All Natural leather balm.
